self-esteem and confidence and improving their future prospects
Everyone deserves a safe place to rest their head, and your generous donations will provide just that for a rough sleeper. If you would like to donate to our cause, please read on.
Fundraising is the bread and butter of the Bus Shelter. We rely on our exposure to raise money for the people who depend on us. Follow the link to our fundraising page to support our cause.
If you would like to donate your time instead, we are always happy to bring more volunteers in to our family here at the Bus Shelter.
At The Bus Shelter MK we are excited to be shortlisted as one of 12 finalists from around the UK going before a public vote in the Selco Stars competition, organised by leading builders merchants Selco Builders Warehouse.
We were selected in the first round of the competition by the Selco judges to receive £500 worth of building materials and now the shortlisted charities are competing in a national public vote to land a significant cash windfall.
The top prize is £5,000 and a second prize of £1,250 is also available to mark Selco’s 125th anniversary.
Pam Williams, of The Bus Shelter MK, said: “We offer a route out of homelessness for people sleeping on the streets of Milton Keynes and have provided a temporary home to more than 90 people since opening in March 2018.
“We were previously based in a converted double decker bus in a car park but the charity now has a long term home following our renovations to a former landscaping depot
“Winning £5,000 would be huge boost for us and enable us to help more people rebuild their lives.”
Carine Jessamine, marketing director at Selco, said: “We were inundated with applicants from a host of good causes with outstanding credentials so The Bus Shelter MK have done extremely well to be shortlisted.
“It does excellent work in the community and hopefully the whole of Milton Keynes will get behind the charity in its quest to win an amount of money which would make a huge difference to the work it does.”
The deadline for votes is Saturday 31st July 2021. Only one vote can be made per person per day.
A Milton Keynes homelessness charity has called on the town’s citizens to back its quest to win top prize in a nationwide competition – and with it £5,000.
With hundreds of trade brands always in stock, Selco’s 70 UK branches are firmly focused on helping tradespeople complete their jobs as quickly and effectively as possible.
– which has a branch in Milton Keynes on Denbigh Road - has organised the competition, designed to support charities and community groups in their Covid-19 recovery.

We believe in the power of people to make a difference in their communities, one day at a time. Our volunteers have already seen and felt the impact that they can have on the lives of those who find themselves homeless.
We enjoyed shepherd's pie and bread and butter pudding, followed by guitar playing and singing.what a lovely bunch of guys we have on the bus. Looking forward to next time
I look forward to my weekly volunteer evening as the guys are always great company. We talk about their week, their hopes, and their gripes and always have a really good laugh. I feel privileged to spend time with them and always leave feeling valued and appreciated.
When I started volunteering I thought I had an idea of what homelessness was like. The Bus Shelter MK has changed that view. The guests' backgrounds, skill sets and outlooks all vary and it's a pleasure to play a small part in their journeys.
Without The Bus Shelter MK's support, I don't want to imagine where I would be now
I always go home feeling privileged to have shared time with them.
I was touched by the way they all rallied around when a homeless man turned up looking for a blanket. They immediately invited him to dinner and made him feel welcomed, showing real concern for his welfare
